After the fall of the Alamo, but before the Battle of San Jacinto, Texians settlers in East Texas fled from their homes in an effort to avoid Santa Anna's army. Many of these settlers perished on the way due to the rainy, cold conditions. After six weeks, the settlers heard of the Texian victory at San Jacinto and were free to return to their homes, or what was left of them.
